Community Forest Management

Forest Management

Several villages are organized under the leadership of the local government, to sustainably manage their forest for wealth creation (charcoal, timber and non-wood forest products).

Sita Niaoule, Tambacounda, Senegal is the soil cover map of the community forest.

The forest is divided into blocks assigned to villages. Sakar-Oudoucar, Sedhiou, Senegal is an exemple of blocks for the community forest.

An example of biodiversity conservation by the forest management plan is highlighted below where the forest is divided into two series: protection and production. The protection zone is meant for biodiversity conservation while the production area harbors the harvesting for fuelwood and non-wood forest products.
